Noircoin
NOIRCOIN is an experiment that considers art, money and fungiblity through the lenses of centralisation and decentralisation, the physical and the digital.
NOIRCOINS may function congruently as a currency and artwork. It is for each holder ultimately to decide how to employ their NOIRCOIN.
NOIRCOIN is intended as a singular work of art comprising the NOIRCOINS in circulation and the combined actions of those who hold them.
Note: this is a summary page only. The NOIRCOIN project is administered from the following website:
Physical NOIRCOINS are tangible objects each consisting a 20cm wide (7¾ inch) tondo canvas painted by Thierry Noir. NOIRCOINS may exist in other formats in the future.
Every physical NOIRCOIN bears a unique Thierry Noir Head design and a circular inscription of eight NOIR signatures. Each is ascribed a unique number and registered to the holder’s ETH address on a centralised ledger.
Physical NOIRCOINs are annotated verso by Thierry Noir as follows:
[YEAR]
#[NUMBER]
NOIR
Each physical NOIRCOIN has built in basic utility as a displayable original artwork. Both aesthetic and conceptual enjoyment will accrue to the owner as will the ability to broadcast social signals attached to ownership. A physical NOIRCOIN may also function as a store of value.
Physical NOIRCOINS will be exchangeable with Thierry Noir assets in the metaverse with additional utility permitted by decentralisation.
Each year the minting structure for NOIRCOINS is decided by Thierry Noir who as sole artist and creator represents the ultimate centralised issuing authority of NOIRCOINS.
In order to function as either a store of value or fungible currency ensuring authenticity and preventing counterfeiting of physical NOIRCOINs is a paramount concern. To this end each NOIRCOIN is photographed from multiple angles at a resolution of 400 megapixels.
Individual brushstrokes and imperfections in the canvas substrate, which are impossible to recreate, are recorded at a macro level.
